It is a life time ago that we started Acstede Design – all pre-computer/desktop design. We learnt how to draw by hand in 3D using ellipse guides as measuring tools.
The project above for GKN Defence was an early project – all they had where flat plans of their new Warrior Armoured Personnel Carrier. A 9 man tank with guns and portholes to shoot from inside. All drawn to scale and accurate positioning. The downside to today’s 3D computer driven illustrations, you can’t change the angle when started. Otherwise you start from scratch again.
During this time we worked with Massey Ferguson (parts, marketing, airbrush cutaways), Astron Building (assembly drawings for buildings), Saab, Hafele (Product Catalogues).
We progressed to graphic design so we can add our own illustrations, design the took over and into computer based layout programmes, gone are the days of cutting up words with scalpels to correct spelling errors. Making for a new world of creative opportunities…
